Little Boy and Grandpa

(explanation)

I've often wondered why a grandfather and grandson may have a special kind of
relationship. It seems to be a once in a lifetime and like no other.
It seems that the age difference of these two would provide for few things in
common. Two different worlds.
As time has passed and I've grown, I've come to realize the reason for this
special bond.

A little boy's innocence          An old man's contentment
A little boy's trust          An old man's honesty
A little boy's future          An old man's memory
A little boy's wonder          An old man's experience
A little boy's love for life          An old man's joy from having lived

They find beauty in the same things: A butterfly, a simple walk down a quiet
country road, sharing a fishing pole or an ice cream cone.
Ask either of them what life is about and they will lead you by the hand.

Little Boy and Grandpa
(dedicated to Gramps)

by Sunny Waters

Fantasies and fairytales
Pictures in a book
Sittin' neath a shady tree
Fishin' in a brook
Dragon flies and puppy dogs
Barefoot in the sand
Ask a little boy what life's about
He'll lead you by the hand

Ridin' bikes and playin ball
Walkin' home from school
Summer days and lazy ways
Jumpin' in a pool
Nature hikes and camping trips
Time alone with dad
Ask a growing boy what life's about
He only knows the fun that he's had

Speedy cars and pretty girls
Weekends at the beach
Making plans on shooting stars
Nothing seems out of reach
Broken hearts and shattered dreams
Hours on the phone
Ask a young man what life's about
He'll tell you nights spent all alone

Wedding bells and baby toys
A big house on the hill
Thinkin' about the good ole days
Working at the mill
Graying hair and slowin' down
Fear of growing old
Ask an aging man what life's about
He'll say it's having someone to hold

Time it slips away so fast
The days the months the years
Try to make a moment last
The hopes the dreams the fears
Knowing soon the day will come
And these two lives must part
Little boy and grandpa
A love that'll last forever in my heart

Fantasies and fairytales
Pictures in a book
Sittin' neath a shady tree
Fishin' in a brook
Dragonflies and puppy dogs
Barefoot in the sand
Ask an old man what life's about
He'll lead you by the hand
Ask an old man what life's about
And he'll lead you by the hand
